Ci-Jaci: the keeper of knowledge more than 1100 years old
Co-founder of hukeira, adoptive mother of Peregrino and a leader of Aruanda: meet Ci-Jaci, an ally of the resistance in the year 3121.
Ci-Jaci, also called Ci, is one of the allies of the Aruanda resistance in the year 3121, and she helps explain where the Tapanhumas' fighting style comes from.
A thousand-year lineage
According to the official dossier, Ci-Jaci belongs to a pure lineage of the Brazilian Indigenous peoples. After being immunized against the pandemic that devastated Earth, she developed a rare side effect: centuries-long longevity. That is why no one knows her real age for sure.
What the archive records are signs that the knowledge she keeps is more than 1100 years old, passed down from father to child. That knowledge is what makes her a keeper within the story.

The meeting that created hukeira
Ci-Jaci masters huka-huka. When Mestre, a capoeira fighter who wandered the world spreading his art, arrived in Aruanda, the two combined what they knew. From that came hukeira, the martial art of the Tapanhumas, which the blog has already covered in this post.
Since then, the two have fought side by side against the regime of Major Pimã. In the Aruanda file, the leadership of the territory is listed under their names: Mestre and Ci-Jaci.
Adoptive mother of Peregrino
She was the one who adopted Peregrino, the speed hero of the resistance, abandoned as a child on the streets of Marília Metropolitana. His name was her choice: a tribute to the peregrine falcon, the fastest bird that ever existed in Brazilian fauna, which she knew through her age-old knowledge.
Waiting for a friend
There is one part of Ci-Jaci's story that the reader knows and she does not. Months before the resistance reunited in Aruanda, Lukas Xagas, one of the hukeira students, left alone on a mission and never came back.
