Every hero universe has a signature that exists only there. In Radius, that signature is hukeira: a martial art created within the story, with deeply Brazilian roots.

Two fighting styles, one art

Hukeira merges the strikes and rhythms of Brazilian capoeira with the holds of huka-huka, the indigenous fighting style of the Upper Xingu. The result is a style that combines direct strikes, takedowns and a sharp reading of the opponent.

In the series, it is born in Aruanda as a form of physical and cultural resistance. It is not just a combat technique. It is the cultural mark of a territory that refuses to trade freedom for technology.

The creators

Hukeira has two founders, and each one brought half of it.

Ci-Jaci belongs to a lineage of the Brazilian indigenous peoples and commands huka-huka. After being immunized against the pandemic that ravaged the Earth, she developed a rare side effect: centuries-long longevity. There are signs that the knowledge she keeps, passed down from parent to child, is more than 1,100 years old.

Mestre is a capoeira master who traveled through cities all over the world to spread the art and bring hope and strength to those he met along the way. When he arrived in Aruanda, he met Ci-Jaci, joined the Tapanhumas and combined his capoeira with her huka-huka.

A knowledge kept secret

Hukeira is not taught to just anyone. Within the story, it is kept secret and passed on to the sons and daughters of the resistance by a few authorized instructors.

One of them is Lukas Xagas, who learned directly from Mestre and Ci-Jaci and became one of the leading members of the Tapanhumas. It is this same Lukas who sets out alone to sabotage the Great Hologram Central in Marília Metropolitana. What happens from there is the starting point of the saga.

Why it matters

Radius blends science fiction, social commentary and references to Brazilian culture, with indigenous mythology, national martial arts and anthropomorphic characters. Hukeira sums up that mix well: in a future ruled by holograms, one of the strengths of the resistance is knowledge passed from person to person.
