Peregrino, the speed hero of the Radius universe

Every resistance needs someone who knows the way back. In Aruanda, that someone is Peregrino. His file in the Radius Universe Archive defines him as the speed hero, always one step ahead of the Tomorrow Troops.

From the streets to Aruanda

His origin is not a light one. As a child, Peregrino was already different from the others: smiling and shy, he seemed to live isolated in his own world. That difference exposed him. He ended up abandoned on the streets of Marília Metropolitana by people close to him, who acted out of fear of reprisals from the Tomorrow Troops.

It was on the streets that he developed speed far beyond normal. Then came his adoption by Ci-Jaci, the guardian of Aruanda's ancestral knowledge, and with it the name he still carries.

Why Peregrino

The codename is a tribute to the peregrine falcon. According to the file, Ci-Jaci knew the bird through her age-old knowledge and described it as the fastest that ever existed in Brazilian wildlife. The character's real name is not revealed.

What he does in the field

  • Super speed: he runs far above the human limit, enough to cover the whole group's escape and slip through the Tomorrow Troops' siege.
  • Route reading: he quickly finds the safest path in the middle of chaos. He is the first one called in an escape.
  • Above-average reflexes: the same speed shows up in combat, reacting before most of his allies.

During the attack on the Great Hologram Central, it is to Mestre that he reports the escape route he found. Peregrino appears in Volume 1 and keeps defending Aruanda in Volume 2.

The inspiration

The Radius universe page records that the character was inspired by Paralympic athlete Daniel Martins. The full file, with the visual guide, is in the character archive.
